February 11, 2013 - Penina K. Lieber recently conducted two days of Workshops in Dallas, Texas for the ABA Commission on IOLTA, which she chairs. The Workshops were attended by several hundred IOLTA Trustees from all over the United States and Canada, as well as Professional Staff from the IOLTA Programs in every state and British Columbia. Topics included technical assistance and accountabilities for grantees; new revenue sources for Civil Legal Assistance Programs for the Poor; the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA); and Fundraising Strategies in the New Normal. June 15, 2012 - New Market Tax Credit Update: A report issued earlier this month by a coalition of community development organizations and financial institutions outlines how the expired New Market Tax Credits (“NMTC”), which were enacted by Congress as part of the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000, spurred private investment in economically distressed communities which traditionally are unable to raise financing through the capital markets to finance a wide range of businesses, create jobs and spur urban gentrification.
